Apartment Jugendlinna

The subject, an old space in a more than a century old building located in a prominent part of the city centre, was renovated for residential use. The main objective and challenge in the design process was to achieve a cozy, youthful and fresh result with completely modern furniture whilst still honouring the building’s history and original architecture.

Interior design commenced after the building permission process, at the point when the apartments were completely stripped down to bare surfaces and water and drainage points had been decided.
We designed small spatial changes inside the apartment using fitted furniture. The planning involved defining the surface materials, plans for fitted furniture, lighting and furniture plans. Some of the furniture were custom designed by us and made specifically for the apartment. The design process was all-encompassing. For example, we defined and chose house plants, home textiles, carpets and curtains for the apartment together with our client.
